SAMPLE: The function of Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) is to produce, process, and transport proteins. It has many nuclear pores or openings to allow proteins to enter the ER for processing. There are flattened sacs known as cisternae where processing occurs. The sacs are narrow to allow the proteins to accumulate in one long strand. ER connects directly to the nuclear envelope to transport finished proteins out of the cell.
